St. Petersburg, FL, October 9, 2007 – Any artist can be a player in the local art scene – at least for one night, thanks to “Open Wall Night,” an inaugural event organized by the emerging St Pete Creative Network.
All local artists are invited to hang one or two pieces of their art on the walls of the St Pete Shuffle clubhouse, which will be turned into an art gallery for the one-night gala. Open Wall Night will give local artists a feel for what it’s like to show their work in a popular gallery without the anguish of the submission and selection process.
A true community event, Open Wall Night’s organizers hope it will enrich the ongoing visual conversation within St Petersburg and surrounding areas. According to Justin Elza, who helps organize the St Pete Creative Network and conceived the Open Wall Night concept, “We want this to become one of the more intriguing events in the entire Bay Area. We hope to hold it annually or even twice a year, at a different St Pete gallery or museum each time. Ultimately we want to encourage new artists to emerge and attract more veteran artists and art lovers to our cool little city.”
Artists of all levels and ages, as well as art enthusiasts, are invited to take part in this diverse art "slam." Art can be any size and any medium, including sculpture and performance art.
Enthusiasm for the event has been very high. “We’ve had dozens of artists contact us about bringing in their work, which is very encouraging. They’re all very excited about the idea and glad something like this is being organized,” says Elza.
The event will take place in conjunction with the St Pete Creative Network’s monthly meeting, which generally draws 50-60 local creatives, and St Pete Shuffle, which often sees attendance upwards of 100 people. This will ensure a large audience to view the art on display.
How it works: from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday October 25th and from 4:00pm-6:30pm on Friday October 26th (the day of the show) local artists may bring one or two pieces of artwork (no minimum or maximum size) to the St Pete Shuffle clubhouse. At the end of the event Friday night artists will take their work with them.
Entry for this inaugural event is free. There will be a cash bar and live music.

The St Pete Creative Network, one of the largest grass-roots creative organizations in Florida, is an all-volunteer, non-profit group with one primary purpose: to make creative life in St Petersburg, Florida even more enjoyable.
